Use literature to inspire your look

Hey, Style Slayers — Happy Moda Monday!

Welcome Inside the Closet! In this edition, we’re sharing 1 quest, 2 tips, and 3 looks to help you embrace your unique style superpowers — Let’s step in! 👇

1 Quest for you to try

This week, you are using literature to inspire you look by creating an outfit based on your favorite book or character to celebrate National Book Lovers Day on Friday, August 9th!

How to participate

  1. Choose: Select a character from your favorite book to emulate.
  2. Create: Using the book’s description or your own imagination, put together an outfit based on clothes that the character might wear.
  3. Capture: Share your outfit with #VostraModaQuest, or reply to this email with your entry.

The most inspiring outfit will be featured next week! Please let me know if you would like to remain anonymous.

2 Tips to help you slay

For this week’s quest, I’ve chosen  Alanna from “The Song of the Lioness” series. This was my favorite book series growing up, so much so that I lost count of how many times I re-read all 4 books! In fact, it inspired many of my knightly aspirations and even prompted me to take a summer of archery and fencing when I was younger.

Your look could be as simple as what you have in your closet to recreate the character, or you can go all out and include fine details and embrace the cosplay spirit of it all!

Our style suggestions

  1. Check out Fanart if you want additional inspiration to create your outfit. Fandoms are great about adding those small details you only catch upon re-reading a book! You can also check out different versions of cover art or use any illustrations in the book as examples of character and outfit ideas!
  2. Use what you own to create a simple or modern version is the character has a more extravagant or specific period piece outfit. How do you think the character would dress in the modern day?
