Blend seasonal pieces for a balanced fall wardrobe

Hey, Style Slayers — Happy Moda Monday!

Welcome Inside the Closet! In this edition, we’re sharing 1 quest, 2 tips, and 3 looks to help you embrace your unique style superpowers — Let’s step in! 👇

1 Quest for you to try

I’ve found that with the autumn equinox being a balance of day and night, it’s also a great reminder of the balance between summer and winter and how we move through the seasons each year. It’s not just the season, but our wardrobes that can find balance by transitioning certain items as well—mixing pieces that are light and dark, cozy or breezy, and blending softness and structure. This week, I challenge you to embrace the change of season by blending your seasonal items to create a balanced fall wardrobe!

How to participate

  1. Choose:  Select a light fabric summer item, and bring autumnal inspiration to your outfit by combining it with a heavier texture for a blend of seasons and materials
  2. Create: Combine earth tones and jewel tones in your outfit to further amplify the autumnal aesthetic you may find outside this season.
  3. Capture: Share your outfit with #VostraModaQuest, or reply to this email with your entry.

The most inspiring outfit will be featured next week! Please let me know if you would like to remain anonymous.

2 Tips to help you slay

For this week’s quest, I’ve chosen to create an outfit using one of my favorite summer materials, linen, but focusing on an autumnal color palette. These burnt orange trousers are lightweight for warm weather, and they pair beautifully with a wool blend teal jacket for a fashionable fall outfit and a great combination of some seasonal pieces!

Your look could be as simple as pairing a traditionally summery outfit with a jewel-toned oversized sweater or fall jacket and bringing the earth tones to your look via accessories or shoes. Don’t be afraid to play around with it and see what inspires you!

Our style suggestions

  1. Balancing Materials: While summer boasts outfits made from lighter materials like linen, cotton, or hemp, try incorporating items made of suede, corduroy, or wool for a tactile richness that speaks to the cooler weather as the season progresses
  2. Back to Basics: If an outfit using neutrals feels too drab for your taste, use accessories made of natural materials like wood, stone, or leather as a way to balance the bold, beautiful jewel tones of your outfit with some elegant earth tones during this challenge!
Bri combines a summer material, linen pants, in an autumn color plaette of burnt orange with a wool blend teal jacket to create an autmnal outfit to keep her warm in the morning and cool in the afternoon by removing layers!

The Mr.

The Mr flatlay balances the transition of seasons and layers by using a lightweight linen floral print button-up in shades of yellow, green, and blue on white. Paired with a pair of burgundy dress pants, a plum sweater, and an oatmeal jacket, we've blended earth tones with jewel tones across this entire outfit. Boots color-blocked with cream and brown pair well with a brown and gold watch, belt, and flat cap!

The Mx.

The Mx flatlay balances the transition of seasons and layers by using a lightweight chambray short-sleeve button-down and pairing it with a burgundy sweater over top. Paired with a printed pant in a range of jewel tones, and a mix of earth tones using accessories like wood and floral earrings, a wood and resin necklace, and even a purple wood ring! Final touches for an autumn-inspired finish are burnt orange loafers and a copper and gold fedora!

The Ms.

The Ms flatlay balances the transition of seasons and layers by using a pair of golden linen-blend trousers paired with a silk camisole in wine red. A sheer crepe shirt in plum is a chic addition, and a leopard print jacket helps to blend jewel tones with earth tones in this outfit. Additional accents of gold in the necklace and a mix of gold and burgundy in the earrings are a subtle addition of metallics to this look, and a leopard print belt and shoes add a pop of print even without the jacket!
