Welcome Inside the Closet! In this edition, we’re sharing 1 quest, 2 tips, and 3 looks to help you embrace your unique style superpowers — Let’s step in! 👇
1 Quest for you to try
Layering season has begun! Whether you’re bundling up for spooky fog-filled mornings or adding that final piece for a little drama, those outer layers are going to be your wardrobe’s unsung heroes during this transitional season! While capes, cloaks, and cardigans may sound like they belong in a fantasy novel, they also happen to be some of the most versatile, stylish, and practical options for autumn. That’s why this week, your challenge is to curate an autumnal outfit using a cape, cloak, or cardigan – your choice!
How to participate
- Choose: Select your outer layer of choice—cape, cloak, cardigan, or even a modern stand-in like a poncho or duster will do!
- Create: Layer your chosen item over your outfit in a way that balances warmth, practicality, and a touch of whimsy. (You could even theme your “character for the day” to look like a scholar, a wanderer, or an adventurer!).
- Capture: Share your outfit with #VostraModaQuest, or reply to this email with your entry.

2 Tips to help you slay
For this week’s quest, I’ve chosen to show the difference between a cloak, a cape, and a cardigan using some of my own items! Cardigans can vary in length, but open in the front and are typically a sweater-type material and style. Capes and cloaks, on the other hand, are similar to each other, though capes are shorter, usually torso length, while cloaks can be ankle/floor length and typically feature a hood.
— Not ready to wear a sweeping cloak to the office? Try a duster (typically a knee-length or longer open-front sweater), poncho, or even an oversized scarf/wrap for the same purpose! These pieces all mimic that same flowing silhouette while staying office, errand, and a little more car door friendly!
Our style suggestions
- Functional accents: Brooches and pins aren’t just decorative—they can help hold wraps or oversized cardigans in place, adding a touch of personality while also serving a purpose. Think of them like “magical fasteners” that finish the outfit!
- Everyday armor: Swap your jacket for a longline cardigan when you need warmth without bulk. Long cardigans can work well over dresses, paired with button-ups, or even layered over tees, giving you flexibility and comfort simultaneously. Pro tip: belt it if you want more structure, or leave it loose for casual cozy vibes.

“Now let me say this: when you’re traveling a good cloak is worth more than all of your other possessions put together. If you’ve nowhere to sleep, it can be your bed and blanket. It will keep the rain off your back and the sun from your eyes. You can conceal all manner of interesting weaponry beneath it if you are clever, and a smaller assortment if you are not. But beyond all that, two facts remain to recommend a cloak. First, very little is as striking as well-worn cloak, billowing lightly about you in the breeze. And second, the best cloaks have innumerable little pockets that I have an irrational and overpowering attraction toward.”
