Closet Chopped Style Challenge

Hey, Style Slayers — Happy Moda Monday!

Welcome Inside the Closet! In this edition, we’re sharing 1 quest, 2 tips, and 3 looks to help you embrace your unique style superpowers — Let’s step in! 👇

1 Quest for you to try

This week, you are pushing the boundaries of your style skills! If you’ve ever felt like your closet is full of potential but you don’t know what to do with half of it, then it’s time to turn that overwhelm into a game! Inspired by the chaos and creativity of the cooking show Chopped, and suggestion from a friend and follower, Clint F, this week’s style challenge is all about grabbing random ingredients—er, garments—and making them work! Whether you’re dealing with an old graphic tee, a unique statement piece, or an item you haven’t worn in years, your mission is to mix those garments into a look that’s as unexpectedly fabulous as a dessert made of strawberry soup and poached dumplings!

How to participate

  1. Choose: Select three random items from your wardrobe without overthinking it.
  2. Create: Combine to make your complete outfit using just those pieces plus 1–2 style staples.
  3. Capture: Share your outfit with #VostraModaQuest, or reply to this email with your entry.

The most inspiring outfit will be featured next week! Please let me know if you would like to remain anonymous.

2 Tips to help you slay

For this week’s quest, I’ve chosen to share a look using a little worn “little black dress” as the “mystery box” item from my closet, primarily because I don’t wear strapless items often and wanted to create a unique look for myself by pairing it with a button down shirt worn in an alternative way, and a pair of black oxfords, mixing more traditionally masculine and feminine items all in one outfit!

Remember, simple style choices can still make a bold impact. For example, if you want to embrace color, a single printed item can be the focal point, and every other piece you pull can be there to complement it. Like selecting a colorful printed blazer paired with trousers, shoes, and a blouse, all utilizing a different color from the print, but when paired together, it becomes cohesive and complementary. Or, choose neutrals to balance the printed blazer so it’s truly the focal point of your outfit.

Our style suggestions

  1. Add your signature flavor: Every chef has their go-to spices, and every style-lover has their go-to pieces. Add one of your “go-to” items—a fitted jacket, favorite accessory, or even bold lipstick—to pull the look into your aesthetic world.
  2. Presentation Matters: The same way that it’s important to plate your dish before considering it complete, don’t forget to style your look to elevate your outfit with small touches like cuffing your sleeves, tucking in your shirt, layering your accessories – a touch of garnish can add that little something extra to make it pop!
For Bri's style inspired chopped challenge, she chose a little worn little black strapless dress as her "mystery box" item and paired it with a white button down style in an alternative way, and black oxford shoes, mixing masculine and feminine style all in one outfit!
