Hey, Style Slayers — Happy Moda Monday!
Welcome Inside the Closet! In this edition, we’re sharing 1 quest, 2 tips, and 3 looks to help you embrace your unique style superpowers — Let’s step in! 👇
1 Quest for you to try
This week, we’re wrapping up the month of June, and we waited to share our Pride message until now—not because we forgot, but because we honestly never stopped participating. Yes, June is a time for joy, protest, and presence, but queerness doesn’t pack itself away with the parade floats, or while you’re packing a suitcase for your summer vacation. We live it daily. We wear it daily. And we want to state for every person reading this newsletter, you are welcome here, whether it’s your first time stepping into this space or you’ve visited many closets before. This one? Open door policy. Always.
Dressing “queer” isn’t a specifc aesthetic—it’s your authentic voice. You don’t have to be decked out in head-to-toe rainbows to express pride or a connection to your identity (but if that’s your vibe, you go Glen Coco!). I believe the heart of queer fashion is freedom—freedom to subvert, to affirm, to evolve. So whether your expression is loud or soft, polished or punk, what matters is that it feels like you. This week, I challenge you to reclaim pride in your own way and slay those closet monsters, especially if they’re the internal ones trying to steal your confidence.
How to participate
- Choose: Select at least one item of clothing or accessory that symbolizes your identity, queerness, or growth as a person. It doesn’t have to be rainbow—just real.
- Create: Combine your selected item with pieces that make you feel your most confident and that make you feel truly seen. Bonus points if it mixes unexpected elements (glam and grit, sweet and sharp) and helps you to embrace the best version of yourself, you being unapologetically you.
- Capture: Share a photo or video of your outfit on socials using #VostraModaQuest, or just journal a note about how this look connects to who you are today. Feel free to share it if you’re comfortable, and tag us @VostraModa so we can celebrate with you!
The most inspiring outfit or story will be featured next week! Please let me know if you would like to remain anonymous.
2 Tips to help you slay
For this week’s quest, I’ve chosen to express my pride by focusing on some of my favorite accent pieces. I’m all about details, and small but lovingly made peices like the rainbow bracelet my younger cousin handmade me last summer and the watercolor rainbow earrings I found on Etsy a few years back are some of my favorite accents to showcase my love for the queer community. Because sometimes small details can be deeply meaninful: earrings shaped like Venus or Mars symbols, pins for your identity flag, or jewelry from queer artists. Sometimes visibility lives in your accessories.
— Your look could be subtle or bold, because Pride isn’t limited to rainbow flags—wear your own palette of power! Burgundy lips, forest green boots, or sleek monochrome with a pop of lavender can signal pride without a drop of glitter…unless you love glitter, in which case, just be warned that you’ll probably be finding it in the most random places for the next few years!
Our style suggestions
- Don’t be afraid to mix Masc and Femme: In fact, I encourage you to embrace it! Try softness but with structure—think combat boots and a tulle skirt, or a leather jacket over satin. The binary is optional. But the fusion? Fabulous.
- Do tap into your confidence: No matter what item you choose this week, the loudest statement is comfort in your own skin. So, whether you’re testing new waters or living loud and proud, trust your reflection, and be kind to yourself no matter which stage of the journey you’re in.
