Dress for this Date Theme: Butterfly Garden

Hey, Style Slayers — Happy Moda Monday!

Welcome Inside the Closet! In this edition, we’re sharing 1 quest, 2 tips, and 3 looks to help you embrace your unique style superpowers — Let’s step in! 👇

1 Quest for you to try

This week we’re dressing for another date night (or day), inspired by a local Butterfly Garden my wife and I visited a while ago! Our last date theme inspiration shared via this newsletter was the Museum of Science a few months ago, which was great for cooler weather as an indoor activity option. This date theme and style quest, however, fits well with our change of season, because even though it typically takes place “indoors” (at least the one near me does), the temperature tends to feel pretty similar to a summer day when you dress for a date at the butterfly garden!

How to participate

  1. Choose: Select items inspired by a date at a butterfly garden, whether they remind you of a butterfly itself or they have butterfly elements on them!
  2. Create: Combine your themed items with pieces you would wear on a date to create your outfit (think warm-weather strolls through a blooming garden, and what that might mean for functionality as well, when planning your look).
  3. Capture: Share your outfit with #VostraModaQuest, or reply to this email with your entry.

The most inspiring outfit will be featured next week! Please let me know if you would like to remain anonymous.

2 Tips to help you slay

For this week’s quest, we’ve gone full “theme” for our inspiration – I’m not saying you need to dress like a full-on butterfly with this style quest idea (unless you want to – there are some pretty cool capelets with monarch wing style sleeves out there!), but embracing some butterfly or garden prints/patterns, or even small details added to your outfit can also add to the fun and creativity of this challenge!

— And who knows, maybe you’ll spark interest from a winged creature and create a cool photo op – Remember to have fun with it!

Our style suggestions

  1. Heavy layers NOT required: If you’ve never been, these gardens are kept at the perfect temperature for their flora, fauna, and resident creatures – warm and humid! While visiting one of these locations, keep those temps in mind as you wander the warm gardens – heavy layers will NOT be required, and light layers may even be a stretch, so dress for a warmer climate, even if the town you live in doesn’t usually reach those temps!
  2. Thinking outside the “butterfly box”: If butterfly prints don’t spark your interest, find inspiration from other flora, fauna, or friends who would hang out in the gardens. Try flower or leaf prints on a sundress, or perhaps dragonflies or moths might be more your speed. Even iridescent jewelry can be inspired by insects with unique exoskeletons or the chrysalis stage of a butterfly!

The Mr.

Our Mr look is inspired by a "butterfly garden" date theme - if butterflies aren't really your thing, lean into the garden part of this theme with a colorful leaf-print short paired with a neutral floral-texture polo. Or you can incorporate any "insects" through simple accessories, like this brass moth ring, then pair it with a color contrast like a gold and blue watch, blue-framed sunglasses, and blue, white, and brown sneakers for an outfit that may just bring the butterflies to you!
