Embody fireside fashion

Hey, Style Slayers — Happy Moda Monday!

Welcome Inside the Closet! In this edition, we’re sharing 1 quest, 2 tips, and 3 looks to help you embrace your unique style superpowers — Let’s step in! 👇

1 Quest for you to try

Whether you’re curled up with a good book, rolling dice with friends, or heading out for cocoa or coffee and catching up with loved ones before the end of the year, your winter style should be as comforting as a crackling fire and as delightfully expressive as your inner nerd and favorite fandom! For this week’s quest, we’re leaning into what I’ll call “Fireside Fashion”—looks that feel like the soft and warm glow of embers but still shine brightly like the call to adventure as we transition from Autumnal fashion into our Winter wardrobes!

How to participate

  1. Choose: Pick one cozy item that embodies your version of fireside comfort—maybe it’s your warmest cardigan, a beloved flannel, your softest sweater dress, or a super plush scarf that makes you think of snowy days spent relaxing by the fireplace.
  2. Create: Build an outfit around that item using three principles:
Texture: Add at least one contrasting fabric. Warmth: Make sure you have a layer you can shed or add;  Personality: Include one accessory or detail that gives the outfit your unique style (pins, jewelry, themed socks, fandom flair). Bonus challenge for nerds: Theme your outfit after a fictional hearth—The Shire, Winterhold, The Burrow, etc!
  3. Capture: Share your outfit with #VostraModaQuest, or reply to this email with your entry.

2 Tips to help you slay

For this week’s quest, I chose to become a “Layering Legend” to take my outfit from fall to winter, while still being fireside cozy! Starting with a black long-sleeve shirt, I added a sheer and sparkly button-down over it, then layered a cropped black sweater over that, which I paired with burgundy velvet pants, and my gold and rose petal d4 earrings!

If you too want to “Layer Like a Legend”, think of your winter layers like building a character loadout: base, mid, and outer layer. For example, your base could be a soft long-sleeve tee, a thermal, or even a mock neck. Your mid-layer, a chunky cardigan, button-down, or soft flannel. And your outer layer, a blanket shawl, oversized scarf, or cozy coatigan or shacket. To keep it visually interesting, mix textures (like I did with my velvet pants and sparkly blouse) to create dimension without bulk!

Our style suggestions

  1. Spark instant comfort: Lean into tactile fabrics like plush knits, brushed fleece, soft wool blends, or velour or velvet for some glam-at-home vibes! These materials can feel luxurious whether you’re having a movie marathon or dashing out to the bookstore to restock your library for the season!
  2. Toasty toes: Footwear can shift your entire mood! At home, try fuzzy socks, slipper boots, or warm grippy socks for chilly wood floors. And if you’re heading out, think winter boots, lug soles, or shearling-lined items. You can even add cute socks or leg warmers for a soft, cozy aesthetic!
Bri shows off her fireside fashion with cozy layers and mixed textures like red velvet pants, a sparkle and sheet buttondown and jersey sweater over top! Paired with black boots and burgundy dice earrings for a consistent color palette, this outfit is comfortable without being too casual, and could easily be worn for the holiday season, or sipping hot coco by the fire with friends!
