Embrace your inner (style) rebel

Hey, Style Slayers — Happy Moda Monday!

Welcome Inside the Closet! In this edition, we’re sharing 1 quest, 2 tips, and 3 looks to help you embrace your unique style superpowers — Let’s step in! 👇

1 Quest for you to try

During this last week of March, we want to welcome the style rogues and rebellious fashion folks! It’s March, and while some might think of marching in step (or basketball, apparently), we prefer the swagger of a rogue, the commanding presence of a pirate, or the defiant stance of a dystopian hero. We’re wrapping this month up and celebrating those who break away from tradition, rewrite the codes, and always look effortlessly cool doing it! That’s right, this week’s quest is, “March of the Rebels” (get it? March vs march?…yeah, you get it)! Your challenge, should you choose to accept it: Create an outfit inspired by your favorite rogue character! Whether you pull from sci-fi, fantasy, or the lawless seas, let your look embody the spirit of rebellion and slaying in effortless style!

How to participate

  1. Choose: Pick a rogue character as your inspiration. Robin Hood and his Merry Men? Captain Jack Sparrow? Someone from your favorite obscure novel (or maybe your own fanfic – oh yeah, I see you!)? Go wild.
  2. Create: Build a look using what you have (or thrift something to make it extra rebellious). Layer, accessorize, and embody your inner outlaw.
  3. Capture: Share your outfit with #VostraModaQuest, or reply to this email with your entry.

2 Tips to help you slay

For this week’s quest, I’ve chosen to embody a very special rebel – my first Dungeons & Dragons character, Rin! As a half-elf rogue with a subclass of “Swashbuckler”, I wanted to combine mysterious elegance with lots of charm, and feel like she’s a great example of a fun (and fashionable) rebel who’d be happy to march into battle…or sneak (especially if I can get an extra 1D6 damage for sneak attack)! Plus, I get to recreate my own character IRL this way! Win-win!

As a style rogue, your look should combine chaos with utility. Think belts, harnesses, fingerless gloves, and multi-pocketed trousers. Rebels are always prepared (for a fight or a getaway). You can also embrace the color palette of a rogue – think shadows and mystery for your sneaky fantasy rogues or metallics and neon for those cyber-punk renegades! But regardless of your genre, make sure to customize your character to your rebellious desires and have fun with it!

Our style suggestions

  1. Layer like a legend: Capes, coats, scarves, or a well-worn leather jacket instantly add that battle-hardened look. Bonus points for asymmetry or dramatic drapes that you can swish as you brood.
  2. A signature piece: Every legendary rebel has one: a dramatic hat, a distinctive weapon (props only for this challenge!), a striking piece of jewelry, or a tattered scarf with stories to tell. This is also a fun way to personalize the style to you!
