Hey, Style Slayers — Happy Moda Monday!
Welcome Inside the Closet! In this edition, we’re sharing 1 quest, 2 tips, and 3 looks to help you embrace your unique style superpowers — Let’s step in! 👇
1 Quest for you to try
When spooky season rolls around, many folks (myself included) enjoy leaning into the festive spirit! Decorating their homes, watching Halloween movies, and even embracing their love of spooky season by wearing fun accessories or printed tees and sweatshirts! But what about those of us who love costumes but may not want to go full costume mode every day? That’s where everyday cosplay comes in—taking inspiration from your favorite characters and weaving it into your everyday outfits in subtle, stylish ways. Think of it as a sartorial wink to the fandoms you love, disguised as wearable streetwear!
How to participate
- Choose: Select your character inspiration. Look at their color palette, signature piece, or overall vibe.
- Create: Combine your inspiration and items you already own for an everyday look that whispers their essence—whether through color, texture, accessories, or silhouette. Don’t forget your “anchor” piece, the item that makes it wearable outside of Halloween.
- Capture: Share your outfit with #VostraModaQuest, or reply to this email with your entry.

2 Tips to help you slay
For this week’s quest, I chose a closet cosplay that I didn’t even mean to create! The color palette was perfect for this character as I was trying different items on together, and a recent update to my hair made it all the more on point for this casual but cute Snow White inspired everyday cosplay (woodland creatures not included)!
— The difference between costume and everyday cosplay lies in the balance. Choose at least one anchor piece that grounds your look in real-world fashion—a classic denim jacket, a simple scarf, or a cozy cardigan. This ensures the outfit reads as stylish streetwear first, with the character inspiration as a bonus layer. For me, the pleated yellow skirt helps ground this outfit and makes it feel less like a costume!
Our style suggestions
- Materials Matter: I have found that materials can make or break a street look vs a costume look. Leather jackets can nod to superhero armor, velvet dresses can suggest witchy elegance, and soft knits can capture cozy character vibes. Texture helps translate a fantastical look into a wearable one, and real materials will read as real outfits vs the plastic-based items you’ll find from a store-bought costume.
- Easter Egg Accessories: Accessories are where your fandom sneaks in: a lightning bolt necklace for a subtle Harry Potter homage, a star-shaped hair clip to hint at Sailor Moon, or a brooch that recalls your favorite magical artifact. These little details are perfect conversation starters for fellow fans who “spot the reference.”
