Hey, Style Slayers — Happy Moda Monday!
Welcome Inside the Closet! In this edition, we’re sharing 1 quest, 2 tips, and 3 looks to help you embrace your unique style superpowers — Let’s step in! 👇
1 Quest for you to try
This week, I challenge you to “pack like a protagonist”! Whether it’s for a long weekend, a week of summer traveling, or something bigger scale like a household move, packing can feel like an epic quest—but instead of deciding between that enchanted sword or magical bow, you’re deciding whether to bring that jacket you love but haven’t worn in months…
No matter if you’re relocating or just going on an extended trip, it’s time to prep your inventory and pack like a protagonist: lightweight, versatile, and true to your character’s style!
How to participate
- Choose: 3-5 signature pieces that define your look—think of it as your aesthetic, or your “armor.” For example, a statement jacket, a versatile layering piece, and some comfy but stylish shoes might all be part of your signature look.
- Create: Combine your signature pieces with some of your “common items”, such as blue jeans, a pair of simple black dress pants, a crisp white t-shirt, etc, to create a capsule wardrobe that’s versatile enough to dress up or down and packs easily for travel, or to use during that first week of unpacking at your new place!
- Capture: Share your favorite outfits from your travel capsule wardrobe with #VostraModaQuest, or reply to this email with your entry.
The most inspiring outfit will be featured next week! Please let me know if you would like to remain anonymous.
2 Tips to help you slay
This week’s quest is a more personal one for me, as I’m currently in the process of moving this summer and am also simultaneously house-sitting for extended family for about a week. Creating a “travel capsule wardrobe” helps me decide what items I should prioritize keeping out during a move, and what I may be ready to let go of if I can’t see myself wearing it once I do move (and save some boxes while I’m at it!). Not to mention, it’s more packing practice!
— When creating your travel capsule, make sure to bring clothes that mix and match, not just single-use items. For example, a button-up can work as a top, as a light jacket, or can be tied around the waist or around the shoulders as an accent, so it’s multi-functional for any season or location! Think of your suitcase (or moving boxes) as your character’s limited inventory space—you can’t bring everything, so what’s essential and will work best for your specific needs? Bonus tip: accessories take up less space but can make a big impact—scarves, jewelry, bags, and hats can transform the same base outfit!
Our packing suggestions
- Expand your bag of holding: Use the “roll, don’t fold” method for max space efficiency in your suitcase while traveling. You can also use packing cubes for additional organization in your bag/suitcase!
- Divide and conquer: For moving, pack like you’d sort your inventory in a game – keep like items together (tops in one box or bag, pants in another, accessories safely contained, etc). I also recommend you layer the least-used items at the bottom so you can grab those more often-used items easily if you need them last minute while still packing, or first thing when unboxing!
