Prepping for party season

Hey, Style Slayers — Happy Moda Monday!

Welcome Inside the Closet! In this edition, we’re sharing 1 quest, 2 tips, and 3 looks to help you embrace your unique style superpowers — Let’s step in! 👇

1 Quest for you to try

From work parties to family dinners to cozy gatherings around the game table — every event has its own theme, intentions, and even fashion expectations. This week’s challenge is all about suiting up (or cozying up) for the season! Because holiday parties can feel like a marathon for your social battery, create scheduling and logistics nightmares that make you want to silence your calendar reminders, and sometimes dress codes that have you questioning if they actually had winter weather in mind (stilettos in winter…need I say more?). Let’s help you prep some go-to looks for the Holiday season so you can feel celebration-ready — no matter the kind of gathering that pops up on your calendar!

How to participate

  1. Choose: Pick one event you’re attending this season (a holiday party with coworkers, winter game night, friendsgiving, family dinner, themed gathering, etc.) and identify the core feeling you want to bring into it: cozy, confident, festive, bold, playful, etc.
  2. Create: Build a look around that feeling. Use your aesthetic signature + one holiday-inspired detail (like sparkle, texture, color, or print) + one comfort element (stretch, soft knit, or adjustable layer). Make sure the outfit could realistically handle the full arc of the event (again, stilettos? …in winter?…just… walk carefully!).
  3. Capture: Share your outfit with #VostraModaQuest, or reply to this email with your entry.

2 Tips to help you slay

For this week’s quest, I’ve chosen to put together an outfit inspired by the classic holiday ballet, The Nutcracker. Funny enough, I bought this blouse intending to wear it to a surprise outing I was invited to last year, but felt a little TOO on point when I found out the show I was being surprised with WAS the Nutcracker (wouldn’t want to be mistaken for the main character, you know?!). I’m using this challenge as an opportunity to create a look that matches my own style aesthetics, with just a touch of Nutcracker inspiration!

Your look could be as simple as creating a monochrome outfit that uses your favorite Holiday color or print for a simple but elegant look. Or if you’re a bold personality, embrace sparkle in all of your accents, from your hat to jewelry, your belt to your shoes, and shine as if you ARE the Christmas Tree (been there, done that, totally worth it!).

Our style suggestions

  1. Build a Multi-Event Capsule: Choose 3–5 intentional pieces (IE, one statement topper, one versatile bottom, one festive shoe, one standout accessory, and one go-to base layer) that can work across different party types. This keeps you from scrambling before each event — simply remix the capsule based on formality. Think items like a velvet blazer, metallic flats, a knit turtleneck, a sparkly brooch, or tailored trousers with some stretch.
  2. Define your “Aesthetic Signature”: Instead of trying to dress to each event’s vibe, anchor yourself with at least one element that feels uniquely you — the rest of your outfit can adapt around it!
Your signature aesthetic might be: Dark academia jewel tones, Cottagecore textures, Cyberpunk metallics, Queer-coded sparkle, Dapper accessories, the list goes on! By identifying your signature to start, every look feels cohesive, no matter the crowd.

The Mr.

Our Mr. Flatlay to "prep for party season" features a monochrome black and gray outfit with some red, black, and gray plaid thrown in for the holiday season! The base of this outfit works great as a standalone look for a simple but elegant nod to a more minimalist fit with a black button-down, black jeans, and gray and black boots paired with a gray peacoat and black accents like a belt, watch, and ring. By adding in a pop of color and print with a plaid sweater and scarf, it not only creates a pop of color, but a pop of holiday cheer too!

The Mx.

Our Mx Flatlay to "prep for party season" embraces a dapper fit and subtle but festive mix of blues and greens, as well as tartan prints in the same color scheme! We've layered a simple white button-down with blue and green plaid dress pants and a green tweed vest, then leaned into our blue era with a navy blue cardigan, blue belt, and blue and gold watch. Finishing the look, we've added our festive tartan accents with simple stud earrings, a patterned scarf, and a pair of tartan print pointed toe loafers so you can feel and look festive from head to toe!

The Ms.

Our Ms Flatlay to "prep for party season" leans into the holiday color palette and prints with a mix of blues, greens, and reds, and a few tartan prints too! A retro-inspired outfit, this look features a navy blue sweater blouse with embroidered red and green flowers, which pair well with a high waist blue and green tartan skirt. A red belt and red boots pull out the red of the flowers, but if you need more holiday spirit in your life, a red plaid bracelet and red and green plaid statement earrings will help! Make a bold statement with a red beret and red wool coat, and stay toasty by layering a pair of fleece-lined tights under the entire outfit!
