Restyling the Clue Crew

Hey, Style Slayers — Happy Moda Monday!

Welcome Inside the Closet! In this edition, we’re sharing 1 quest, 2 tips, and 3 looks to help you embrace your unique style superpowers — Let’s step in! 👇

1 Quest for you to try

MURDER IS AFOOT!! It’s Halloween week, so to celebrate, we’re diving into a mansion full of mystery! Whether you’re attending a costume party, hosting a small group gathering, or just feeling adventurous, join us as we recreate the iconic characters from the classic game, Clue! Using items you already own, a little creativity, and some clever styling, you can embody Colonel Mustard, Miss Scarlet, Professor Plum, or any other member of the investigation (or investigated!) crew and sus out the murderer…or hand out candy in style!

How to participate

  1. Choose: Select your Clue character and identify one “anchor” piece (and item that anchors you in reality vs costume) in your wardrobe that you think reflects them.
  2. Create: Build your outfit using 2–3 key accessories or layering pieces that hint at your character. Mix colors, textures, and silhouettes to help you channel your inner detective!
  3. Capture: Share your outfit with #VostraModaQuest, or reply to this email with your entry – bonus points if you take a photo in a setting that enhances the mystery vibe—maybe a dramatic doorway, a stairwell, or a moody corner of your living room, or a group photo if friends join the challenge!

The most inspiring outfit will be featured next week! Please let me know if you would like to remain anonymous.

2 Tips to help you slay

For this week’s quest, I’ve chosen to embrace ALL of the Clue Characters. That’s right – I created an outfit for each of our beloved board game figures, because it’s Halloween, so why not go all out!

You, however, don’t need to make ALL of the characters!  But if you’re looking for a fun group costume to do with some friends, why not think of a modern version of your go-to game token color choice? Want to make it even more fun? Designate each character’s name to a number (1-6), then roll a 6-sided dice to help you randomize your costume decisions!

Our style suggestions

  1. Mysterious Layers: Cloaks, blazers, vests, and cardigans can add a subtle nod to the era and aesthetic of the Clue mansion, but still feel everyday wearable too! Items like a tailored blazer over a colorful blouse or a dramatic scarf can instantly suggest a character without looking like a full costume!
  2. Easter Egg Accessories: A magnifying glass pendant, pearl earrings, gloves, a classic pocket watch, or a statement hat in a specific color can hint at your character! Accents are the secret sauce that make your look recognizable to fellow fans while remaining comfortable if you don’t want to create a full body look!

The Mr.

The Mr. Flatlay and our Colonel Mustard outfit inspiration for the "Clue Crew" - this outfit uses the idea of a "mustard" color palette as a range of options! From yellows to light and golden browns, we've leaned into the warmth of a "mustard" toned outfit while going for a more casual look of chinos, a cream mandarin collar button down, a golden yellow jacket, and accents like a gold and brown scarf, a wooden ring, and printed boots to pull neutrals throughout the whole look!

The Mx.

The Mx Flatlay and our Professor Plum outfit inspiration for the "Clue Crew" - whether you use separates or go for a full 3-piece suit set, purple is the name of the game here! I love pairing purples with blacks and silvers as the neutral and metallic contrast as well. Add some academic touches with silver glasses, a pocket watch, and either collar pins or a tie, whichever you prefer!

The Ms.

The Ms Flatlay and our Ms Scarlet outfit inspiration for the "Clue Crew" - I went full vintage with my own version and dyed a cream dress to fit the "scarlet" theme, but you can create your own elegant look with any little red dress! A few pearl details in necklace, earrings, bracelet, and ring, paired with a black faux fur shrug and black heels featuring a pearl accent, help make any look feel starlet-inspired!
