Hey, Style Slayers — Happy Moda Monday!
Welcome Inside the Closet! In this edition, we’re sharing 1 quest, 2 tips, and 3 looks to help you embrace your unique style superpowers — Let’s step in! 👇
1 Quest for you to try
Game Masters are the architects of adventure, the weavers of worlds, and let’s be honest, the keepers (or sometimes victims) of chaos! That’s why in honor of March 4th being International Game Master Day, I want to celebrate the GMs who make our tabletop role-playing experiences unforgettable—by dressing the part! Whether you run the game or just appreciate the magic they create, honor the storyteller’s style this week with our “Roll for Style” quest – you’ve been summoned, my fellow TTRPG players!
How to participate
- Choose: Decide on a GM-inspired aesthetic—will you channel a wise old wizard, a cyberpunk hacker, or perhaps a mysterious vampire? Alternatively, if you’re a true chaos gremlin at heart, why not let your dice decide on your pieces and lean into the “roll”?
- Create: Layer pieces, add accessories, and embody the storytelling spirit from what you currently have in your wardrobe, or curate some new items that you could wear to your next session!
- Capture: Share your outfit with #VostraModaQuest, or reply to this email with your entry (bonus points if you tag your GM in the photo!).
The most inspiring outfit will be featured next week! Please let me know if you would like to remain anonymous.
2 Tips to help you slay
For this week’s quest, I chose to honor GMs everywhere and the first TTRPG I played, Dungeons & Dragons, by wearing a fitted black blazer, black suit pants, oxford flats, and an epic dragon embroidered bustier and D4 dice earrings. Oh, and of course, showing off my giant D20, just for fun!
— If you don’t feel like leaving your outfit up to fate, you can get inspired by some other great GMs out there and the signature style they weave into their outfits and games! For example, well-known GM Matthew Mercer of Critical Role wears layered leather bracelets during his sessions (which were gifts from friends many years ago according to lore) and has a variety of different colored vests that he pairs over graphic tees, while GM Aabria Iyengar always has an epic makeup look or accessory combo happening during her sessions! The main takeaway? Have fun with it!
Our style suggestions
- Dramatic Layers: Channel the mystique of a master storyteller with items like capes, cloaks, dusters, or flowing scarves in styles and cuts fitting for your character creation session
- Textured Tales: Embossed leathers, velvets, or arcane-printed fabrics add depth to your look and can help evoke the mood created by your favorite fantasy realm

“At their best, a knight is… a warrior. Which is to say, one who prizes danger for themselves over the thought of danger for another. A knight is one who puts themself in the path of chaos and dismay, of trouble and trial and tribulation…who seeks the doing of great deeds; that the sun might shine more brightly on those in need.” – Quoted from GM Brennan Lee Mulligan’s character, Sir Curran, from “The Wizard, Witch and the Wild One” campaign
A fitting example of the artistry and storytelling from some of our favorite game masters, and a deep appreciate of their work – thanks GMs everywhere, we appreciate you!
