Romancing your closet

Hey, Style Slayers — Happy Moda Monday!

Welcome Inside the Closet! In this edition, we’re sharing 1 quest, 2 tips, and 3 looks to help you embrace your unique style superpowers — Let’s step in! 👇

1 Quest for you to try

For many folks, the start of February means it’s Valentine season – but that doesn’t have to mean focusing on, or even dressing for, someone else.
This edition at Vostra Moda, we’re turning the romance inward—falling back in love with the clothes that make you feel confident, expressive, and even a little bit magical! Romance isn’t just hearts, lace, and variations of the color pink (though I love it for you if that’s your vibe!). I like to think that Romance is more about intention, paying attention to details, and embracing feelings of joy and delight. So whether your style is soft, edgy, minimal, bold, or beautifully in-between, I challenge you to fall back in love with your wardrobe, and yourself—one thoughtful outfit at a time. 💕

How to participate

  1. Choose: Pick one traditionally “romantic” element you’re curious about exploring for this quest (textures such as lace or velvet, colors like red, pink, or white, details like hearts or flowers, or just a general vibe of romance can all be a great starting point!).
  2. Create: Build an outfit that blends the chosen element with your everyday style. Keep it wearable, but intentional – bonus points if it “takes your breath away” or “sweeps you off your feet”… metaphorically, of course.
  3. Capture: Share your outfit with #VostraModaQuest, or reply to this email with your entry. After taking that mirror selfie or outfit photo, feel free to jot down how the outfit made you feel. Did it change your mood? Your confidence? Your energy?

2 Tips to help you slay

For this week’s quest, I challenge you to ask, “If I were trying to impress myself, what would I wear?” Romancing your closet should be about choosing outfits that feel good on your body, reflect who you are now, and make you stand taller when you catch a glimpse of your reflection in the mirror.

That’s why I want to encourage you to redefine romance to be alluring and fun for YOU! If you’re drawn to Soft/Cute styles, try lace trims, bows, heart prints, and pastel pinks. If you’re intrigued by an Edgy look, embrace leather + lace, deep red accents, sheer layers, and metal hardware. For my Bold style adventurers, monochrome red looks, statement silhouettes, and dramatic textures and contrast will help you stand out from the crowd. If you prefer a minimal style, simplify and focus on one romantic detail—a silk blouse or button-down paired with a rosy lip and delicate jewelry, or elegant cuff links and collar pins. And my Androgynous/Whimsical friends can lean into those pirate vibes we know you already have with flowy tops, items in rich jewel tones, intriguing textures, and a plethora of accessories for a fanciful but charming feel. Romance isn’t a box—Choose what feels aligned, not expected!

Our style suggestions

  1. A “Love Note” to Details: Romance flourishes in thoughtful and intentional doses, and the same can be said for accessories! Try a classic bow or flowers in your hair, or for a more unique and fashion-forward take, pin it to each point on the collar of a button-down shirt, or place it on your belt as an accent piece. Or embrace a pop of color with pinks, reds, or burgundys in your shoes, socks/tights, or even as a statement item, like a necklace or bag.
  2. Let Texture Do the Talking: You don’t NEED an obvious heart print to bring romantic inspiration into an outfit. Instead, look for touchable fabrics, materials like lace, mesh, satin, velvet, and silk mixed in different ways, for example. You can even try softening those more structured pieces with drape or sheen for contrast that keeps the eye interested and engaged, without needing to say a word!
Bri shows off how she romances her own closet and herself, by embracing her love of edgy elegance. Her outfit features a stylized lace up front burgundy crushed velvet cocktail dress paired with metallic heels and a metallic statement necklace complimented by gold threader earrings with rose petal D20's held by a dragon claw on the ends. A bit vampy, a bit modern, and a lot of self love for this look!
