Hey, Style Slayers — Happy Moda Monday!
Welcome Inside the Closet! In this edition, we’re sharing 1 quest, 2 tips, and 3 looks to help you embrace your unique style superpowers — Let’s step in! 👇
1 Quest for you to try
This week, I challenge you to charm your friends with a fantastical but still factual inspired outfit – Pull out your parchment and ink, crack open that book, and let’s step into a world where style meets scholar! Spring is a great season to embody academia—think ivy-covered libraries on a rainy day, handwritten spells in the margins, and a wardrobe that whispers both intellect and imagination using lightweight layers, book-inspired textures, and timeless accessories. So, whether you’re inspired by a fantasy librarian, an elven alchemist, or your own brainy brilliance, it’s your time to weave a touch of magic into your everyday wear!
How to participate
- Choose: Pick your inspiration for this quest: a character, an aesthetic, or even a setting that lights your scholarly spark.
- Create: Style an outfit using your own bookish intuition or test a fashion theory and experiment with your wardrobe this week
- Capture: Share your outfit with #VostraModaQuest, or reply to this email with your entry.
The most inspiring outfit will be featured next week! Please let me know if you would like to remain anonymous.
2 Tips to help you slay
For this week’s quest, I’ve chosen to embrace my inner academic with an outfit that embraces scholarly vibes and evokes studying in a dusty library. I personally loved pairing items like a fitted satin vest and black oxfords with this outfit for a touch of polished “professionalism” that blends well with the contrasted soft textures and “fantasy fashion” elements.
— Speaking of which, try blending real-world academia with a touch of otherworldly flair. What would someone who guards ancient tomes, catalogs forgotten spells, or translates dragon runes wear in the real world? Think function meets fantasy, or check out some fun fashion inspiration from characters like the players in Critcal Role’s Candela Obsura series, or Evelyn OConnell from The Mummy: librarian, adventurer, (SO many people’s queer awakening) and scholar.
Our style suggestions
- Layer with intention – much like the layers to a gripping story, or transmuting one element to another through the power of alchemy, layering your clothing is a way to create interest in your outfit and change it from one style to another with ease
- Accessories as Artifacts and vice versa – vintage accessories can give cool artifact vibes and help complete your ensemble. Don’t be afraid to lean into character creation mode with items like worn satchels, leather-bound books, wax seals, and signet rings, or even some unique spectacles.
