Storm through April showers in style

Hey, Style Slayers — Happy Moda Monday!

Welcome Inside the Closet! In this edition, we’re sharing 1 quest, 2 tips, and 3 looks to help you embrace your unique style superpowers — Let’s step in! 👇

1 Quest for you to try

This week, I challenge you to embrace the elements (namely water) and step into the storm in style! The month of April is known for bringing rain showers, so we’re turning them into a style statement! This week’s theme is all about channeling the mystery and drama of a rain-soaked fantasy novel instead of feeling like a drowned rat all season! Instead, think mist-covered waterways, drying off by a crackling fire, and mysterious storm-lit silhouettes. It’s time to play some epic music and step into your main character moment during that perfectly-timed flash of lighting!

How to participate

  1. Choose: Select your stormy fantasy novel aesthetic. Are you a tempestuous sorcerer, a windswept traveler, or a gothic poet caught in the squall?
  2. Create: Mix textures, layer up, and let your inner protagonist shine while including some modern materials (and accessories – hello stylish umbrella!) for weatherproofing!
  3. Capture: Share your outfit with #VostraModaQuest, or reply to this email with your entry.

2 Tips to help you slay

For this week’s quest, I’ve chosen to share one of my favorite rainy day creations – my take on the Morton Salt Girl! Because I used a large umbrella in this look, as long as it wasn’t too windy, this could be a cute option (and a subtle closet cosplay) for a spring-inspired rainy day outfit!

Your look could be as simple as focusing on rain-proof pieces and making a stylish outfit from them, or you can embrace the mysterious aesthetic of this challenge and create a character battling the storm during their epic adventures. Either way, remember to have fun and try to stay dry (especially if you’re wearing rayon – it’s known to shrink when it gets wet!)!

Our style suggestions

  1. Stormy Hues & Shiny Fabrics let you embrace the moody atmosphere with a palette of deep blues, inky blacks, and muted grays. Water-resistant fabrics and high-shine finishes are also a cool aesthetic that can mimic wet pavement after rainfall.
  2. Elemental accessories like raindrop-shaped jewelry, swirling silver rings, and moody gemstone pieces (think opal, labradorite, or moonstone) capture the storm’s spirit without needing to actually embrace the rain (AKA: get soaked) for your outfit to look storm-inspired. You can even use your umbrella as an outfit accent!

3 Looks for you to shop

Upgrade your wardrobe with just one click! Shop these fresh looks to trend the multiverse and never go out of style.

The Mr.

The Mr fashion flatlay is inspired by stormy weather - for the debonair man who needs a water resistant look while still feeling fashionable, a sleek rain coat and waterproof boots can be paired with wool or linen trousers, which hold up well in wicking water. Add some accents like a waterproof bag, a water resistant watch, and a walking cane/umbrella all in one to complete this professional but still cool look!

The Mx.

The mx fashion flatlay is inspired by stormy weather and the Renaissance Faire! Fear not, my adventurous friend; you can still look stylish while also being prepared for the storm with some key clothing items that also look great together! Opt for wool fabric to help stay warm and dry, or linen as a natural option that stays on theme but still works for gloomy skys. If you can find a waxed cloak, all the better, but they may not be as easy to come by. A pair of water proof boots (and wool socks) are important to keep your feet dry, and for a more modern approach, don't forget that you can find some unique options like a stylish umbrella that doubles as a walking cane and can work well for that secret noble on a quest who really just doesn't want to worry about getting wet!

The Ms.

The Ms fashion flatlay is inspired by stormy weather - with one part rainfall and one part 90s throwback, this outfit embraces transparent details like a clear raincoat, umbrella, purse, and even heels! Paired with a beaded dress worn beneath the coat, you'll think of rain falling down your window, and adding some unique accessories like an aquamarine ring the color of a cloudy day alongside some rain drop earrings will especially embody stormy weather! Adding details like a black corset belt helps pull this look together with the black detailing on the heels, the black of the watch face, and the black umbrella handle for a cohesive monochromatic outfit that embodies stylish April showers!
