Style a NYE outfit where sparkle meets stability

Hey, Style Slayers — Happy Moda Monday!

Welcome Inside the Closet! In this edition, we’re sharing 1 quest, 2 tips, and 3 looks to help you embrace your unique style superpowers — Let’s step in! 👇

1 Quest for you to try

New Year’s Eve fashion doesn’t have to be a choice between dazzling and comfortable. This week, we’re embracing both Gilded & Grounded style—mixing metallics, shimmer, and luxe textures with practical layers, sturdy footwear, and outfits that can survive midnight and the walk or drive home! Think: sequins with knits, velvet with boots, glam tops grounded by layers that keep you warm, confident, and bring out your best self as you step boldly into 2026!

How to participate

  1. Choose: Pick one “sparkle” element (sequins, metallic, or luxe texture) and one “stable” element (boots, knitwear, or a layering piece).
  2. Create: Style an NYE outfit that balances both. Make sure to ask yourself:
    Can I move in this?
    Can I stay warm?
Do I still feel like me?
  3. Capture: Snap a photo before heading out—or during a quiet moment of the night. Capture how it feels to step into the New Year both radiant and rooted, and feel free to share your outfit with #VostraModaQuest, or reply to this email with your look!

2 Tips to help you slay

For this week’s quest, I’ve chosen to use my Miss Scarlet dress as my NYE-inspired outfit! I love a fun theme, and the Roaring 20s has been a popular one for NYE – perfect for this outfit! If I want to add a “stable” element, a pair of ankle boots and a cozy cardigan won’t take away from the look, but will keep me comfortable while still feeling stylish all night!

If sparkle or shine isn’t your jam, remember that materials like velvet, satin, leather, and faux fur can instantly elevate an outfit without needing a lot of bling or sparkle. Let texture do the heavy lifting so your look feels intentional, not overwhelming, and let your personality be the thing that shines through!

Our style suggestions

  1. Boots are THE power move: Reminder that those sky-high NYE heels are optional (coming from a girl who loves the look of stilettos, but likes to feel her toes even more). Think statement boots—combat, Chelsea, western, or a chunky heeled ankle boot—to keep you warmer, more stable, and (mostly) ready for anything the night throws at you. Bonus points if you pull your gilded accent into this grounded item by using patent leather or a shoe with metallic finishes!
  2. How to balance your sparkle: If you’re wearing sequins, metallics, or shimmer in most of your outfit, try grounding them with something matte or cozy. For example, with a sequin dress, add a chunky knit sweater on top. Or if you’re doing metallic trousers, pair them with a soft ribbed tee, or even balance your sparkly blouse with a velvet blazer and dark wash jeans!
Bri uses her Miss Scarlet clue costume as the inspiration for her New Year's Eve and Roaring 20s inspired outfit! With plenty of sparkle already, she can add some "stable" pieces like a pair of statement boots and a cozy cardigan to balance her outfit and remain comfortable and stylish into the new year!

3 Looks for you to shop

Upgrade your wardrobe with just one click! Shop these fresh looks to trend the multiverse and never go out of style.

The Mr.

Our Mr NYE look embraces a subtle sort of "sparkle" with a black wool and silver stud embellished suit jacket and matching pants, silver pocket watch, and black and silver layered chain necklace with a star pendant. We added some "stable" pieces to balance and ground the outfit with a soft black turtleneck, simple black belt, and black and gray patterned boots. A solid back and silver signet ring with black onyx detail finishes our slightly edgy, but party-ready NYE look!

The Mx.

Our Mx NYE look balances the feel of luxury and our "sparkle" items with a navy blue velvet blazer alongside a soft blue velveteen vest and trouser set layered over a blue, pink, and white striped sweater for our "stable" piece, along with a navy blue scarf, leather blue and brown sneakers, and a brown belt. Gilded accents of navy blue and gold found in the watch and ring add a subtle touch of shine to this soft but stylish take on a NYE outfit!

The Ms.

Our Ms NYE outfit leans heavily into "sparkle" items with a pink sequin blouse and matching skirt, as well as pink and gold earrings and a ring, and a pearl headband with "Happy New Year" on it! A mix of both gilded and grounded can be found with the faux fur ivory bolero, which pairs well with ivory and gold ankle boots. To ground this sparkly NYE look with some "stable" pieces, we've added a pair of fleece-lined leggings and an ivory coat with a pink flower design to keep you toasty and fashionable as you ring in the new year!
