Style Mode Series: From Work to Werk

Hey, Style Slayers — Happy Moda Monday!

Welcome Inside the Closet! In this edition, we’re sharing 1 quest, 2 tips, and 3 looks to help you embrace your unique style superpowers — Let’s step in! 👇

1 Quest for you to try

As a stylist and collaborator with other creatives, it’s easy for me to see that not all jobs happen behind a desk (even though there are plenty that do!). Maybe you’re also part of an on-the-go career – on your feet all day, carrying gear, crafting with your hands, or making magic in a studio – if that sounds like your work day, then this week is for you, my friend!

We’re all about outfitting your real life and your work. Work Mode is where you get things done, move with ease, and still look pulled together even if your day includes climbing a ladder, manning a camera, or a last-minute coffee meet-up with a client. Let’s build looks that are built to last—and still look damn good, with this week’s challenge: to go from Work Mode to WERK MODA!

How to participate

  1. Choose: Identify a part of your week where you’re active, hands-on, or running errands—and where you usually default to “meh” clothes.
  2. Create: Curate an outfit that works with you, not against you. Prioritize comfort, movement, and functionality—but add at least one style-forward piece that you’d feel proud to meet that high-paying cilent while wearing.
  3. Capture: Share your outfit with #VostraModaQuest, or reply to this email with your entry.

The most inspiring outfit will be featured next week! Please let me know if you would like to remain anonymous.

2 Tips to help you slay

For this week’s quest, I’ve chosen to share an outfit that I wore while working backstage at NH Fashion Week in 2024. While I still want to look professional and feel stylish no matter who or how I’m working, when I’m on set for a production or photoshoot, I tend to be moving around – a LOT. Because I’m bopping around, getting my steps in, and sometimes dropping it like it’s hot (how else do you help cuff a client’s pant leg?), I need to be able to MOVE with ease.

Your look could follow a similar template of focusing on being comfortable but chic. Pants with either stretch or flow are a must for movement, like my black dress pants with LOTS of stretch, paired with a well-fitting top (I prefer a high neckline for how often I’m leaning over) and some good shoes. Add your personality with accessories that make sense for your tasks (I opted for earrings and a simple black watch as my statement accessories, and for function!). Lots of rings and bracelets may not be best for those who literally need to get their hands dirty, but a unique hat, cool scarf, or even your glasses can be a great nod to your style!

Our style suggestions

  1. Layer with intention: Layering isn’t just about warmth (though it’s a perk in heavily air-conditioned spaces or cold environments)—it’s about versatility. Try a stylish utility vest, a shacket, or a performance jacket that looks cool but can handle the hustle while giving you more storage options on your person (yay pockets!).
  2. Keep it easy to clean:  You’re working, probably in a fast-paced environment, and life can get messy. Stick to machine-washable, wrinkle-resistant staples when possible so your clothes don’t hold you back, and you don’t hold a grudge. Save the dry-clean-only items for special events where it’s less likely that you’ll be kneeling on a floor to adjust or fix something multiple times in one day.
Bri’s outfit while working backstage on NH Fashion Week in 2024 included a high neck black tank, black dress pants with lots of stretch and pockets, black sneakers, silicone ring and fitbit, simple gold earrings and necklace - additional layer not pictured was a fitted black jacket with stretch in the arms for movement, and of course, more pockets!

3 Looks for you to shop

Upgrade your wardrobe with just one click! Shop these fresh looks to trend the multiverse and never go out of style.

The Mr.

The Mr "Work to Werk" flatlay features a green and brown color palette, embracing a bright green with stretch-friendly chinos (perfect for any bending or unplanned squats during your day), a lightweight white linen button-up, and a brown fitted shacket. Complimenting these items are a pair of brown leather sneakers, a brown bag, a brown and green patterned belt, a brown, green, and gold watch, and some green-framed shades (because even your shades can help you stay on theme with your color palette!).

The Mx.

The Mx "Work to Werk" flatlay features a simple but bold black and white color scheme and modern but function friendly outfit! For cooler weather (or highly air conditioned spaces), layering a white cutout turtleneck beneath a black short-sleeve collared coveralls gives a dynamic pop of contrast. A pair of white sneakers, white watch, and even white framed glasses are great accents to the coveralls as well. Finishing touches include a black and white silicone ring set, silver equality necklace, black and white scarf, which can be worn in a myriad of ways, and a black leather hip and thigh bag to keep anything you need while on the job close at hand!

The Ms.

The Ms "Work to Werk" flatlay features a fashionable but functional look that combines a white sleeveless bodysuit, black jeans, and a denim blazer. Complimenting these colors are gold layered necklaces and gold drip pearl earrings, as well as a blue and gold silcone ring for those who work with their hands but still want something fun! A white belt with gold accent pairs well with the earrings and bodysuit, and we finish the look with some blue and white sneakers and a blue backpack to stay on point with our color palette while running wherever you may need!
