Styling the accessory underdog: scarves

Hey, Style Slayers — Happy Moda Monday!

Welcome Inside the Closet! In this edition, we’re sharing 1 quest, 2 tips, and 3 looks to help you embrace your unique style superpowers — Let’s step in! 👇

1 Quest for you to try

This week’s “style side quest” is all about scarves—the underdog of the accessory world, these items are perfect for creating dynamic, layered looks that transition effortlessly between indoors and outdoors. Scarves can add texture, color, and warmth, giving any outfit that extra polish (and coziness). Whether you’re bundling up for a frosty morning quest or adding flair to an evening ensemble, scarves are the versatile magic item your wardrobe has been waiting for. Let’s explore how to use them to their full potential!

How to participate

  1. Choose: Select a scarf that fits your personal style or try one with a bold pattern or texture you wouldn’t usually wear.
  2. Create: Use one of the tips from this newsletter to incorporate your scarf into your outfit. Don’t be afraid to try different tying techniques until you find a look you love.
  3. Capture: Share your outfit with #VostraModaQuest, or reply to this email with your entry.

2 Tips to help you slay

One of the things I love about scarves is how many types and styles exist and how each type can easily change your entire outfit with minor adjustments, or just different tying techniques!

Depending on your preference, there are plenty of scarf options to get started with your scarf side quest, but here are a couple of ideas that I love for the winter months!

Our style suggestions

  1. If you like cozy vibes (or want to feel like you’re back at the ren faire), I recommend you check out a blanket scarf and wear it like a shawl over your shoulders, or fasten it with a decorative broach or pin for bonus nerd points. Or you can go full cloak mode if the scarf is large enough and wear it like a hood, then add a belt over the waist area to create some shape and help hold it in place!
  2. Want something more minimal but elevated? A printed silk scarf is a simple but elegant staple to elevate any outfit and can easily be worn in place of a tie with your button-up shirt, give some vintage flair when styled as a hair wrap, or create a classic look when tied in a French Twist. And because silk is a natural insulator, it’s a great accent option for winter layers!
