Take your outfit from renaissance faire to day wear

Hey, Style Slayers — Happy Moda Monday!

Welcome Inside the Closet! In this edition, we’re sharing 1 quest, 2 tips, and 3 looks to help you embrace your unique style superpowers — Let’s step in! 👇

1 Quest for you to try

If you’ve never been before, the Renaissance Faire is a magical experience where fandoms and fantasy, a bit of history, and a touch of whimsy all collide! Not only is it a thrill to attend, but you can become anyone for the day as well. From a noble knight based on King Arthur’s court, to an elf from The Lord of the Rings, or even your own D&D character – a rogue tiefling merchant weaving through the crowd (don’t actually pickpocket though…that’s an IRL critical fail).

May kicks off the season for a number of New England’s festive fairs, so we’re taking inspiration from these enchanting events and weaving elements of them into our everyday armor…I mean, wardrobe! Get ready to take your look from Ren Faire to Day Wear! Even though you may have to go back to work tomorrow, it doesn’t mean you can’t bring some of that joy from your weekend at the faire into your day through what you wear!

How to participate

  1. Choose: Select at least one article that you would typically wear to your local Ren Faire.
  2. Create: Combine with a more modern item from your day-to-day life, such as a pair of jeans or a structured jacket, and add accessories that could fit either “era”!
  3. Capture: Share your outfit with #VostraModaQuest, or reply to this email with your entry.

2 Tips to help you slay

For this week’s quest, I’ve chosen to mix and match some of my go-to Renaissance pieces with my stylish professional wear! A whimsical and vibrantly painted blazer that’s reminiscent of a jester’s jacket, combined with a simple white button down, black pants, and tall black boots, creates a fun mix for my local festival or even my day-to-day if I switch out 1-2 items/accessories!

Your look could be as simple as pairing a maxi-skirt with a peasant blouse and ankle boots, then adding a wide belt and waist bag or a cross-body satchel to your look. Layering is a key part of creating a faire-worthy look, so don’t be afraid to play around with how you layer your look this week!

Our style suggestions

  1. Neutrals and prints: For a simpler look, go for neutral colors and earth tones, and natural materials. Or if you want to feel especially regal, choose bold colors like royal blue, crimson red, or violet, and prints with brocades for more resplendence!
  2. Create shape: Many times, you’ll see corsets being used to create certain silhouettes at the fair, but a corset may not be functional for your day-to-day look. Instead, create a similar look in your outfit by using a wide belt, vest, or even a structured jacket worn over top of flowy pieces.
Bri embraces her renaissane faire look which can also pass as a day-wear look with some simple adjustments like switching the boots out for heels that match the vibrant pink, purple, and gold printed blazer

The Mr.

The mr fashion flatlay takes this Renaissance Faire look to a Day Wear outfit by using pieces like coated black denim jeans, buckled boots, and a gothic red button up shirt with detailed sleeves akin to bracers. Elements like a hooded leather jacket, crossbody sling, and some silver accessories add touches of modernism for a mix of eras!

The Mx.

The mx fashion flatlay creates a feeling of magic and mystery but can still be made modern for a Renaissance Faire to Day Wear look using brown linen dress pants and vest with an oversized white darcy blouse and loafers. Details like a thick waist belt, gold framed glasses, and astronomy inspired earrings elude to studying maps and tomes by candlelight - or perhaps reading fantasy books with a cup of tea on the couch!

The Ms.

The ms fashion flatlay is the epitome of whimsy and elegance! A sky blue peasant blouse paired with a blue and pink floral skirt (with pockets) and a cream corset belt creates a lovely Renaissance Faire look. Adding a cream and floral blazer over top, some blue and silver accessories, camel loafer heels, and a handy cream and translucent backpack mixes the modern with the magic for an easy adjustment to take this look from Ren Faire to Day Wear!
