The force awakens your spring wardrobe

Hey, Style Slayers — Happy Moda Monday!

Welcome Inside the Closet! In this edition, we’re sharing 1 quest, 2 tips, and 3 looks to help you embrace your unique style superpowers — Let’s step in! 👇

1 Quest for you to try

This week, we’re shifting into hyperdrive for a quest in one of the most iconic universes ever imagined, Star Wars! In honor of May 4th, “May the fourth be with you” and May 5th, “Revenge of the 5th”, whether you’re loyal to the light side or tempted by the dark side, we’re exploring galaxies far, far away but still within the comfort of our closets (not be confused the worlds within our wardrobes – don’t worry, a Narnia quest is on the list)!

Get ready to channel your inner Luke, Leia, Han, Rey, Vader, or even Grogu — while staying comfy and stylish for the season ahead.

How to participate

  1. Choose: Pick a Star Wars character, faction, or vibe to inspire your look.
  2. Create: Build a spring-appropriate Star Wars inspired outfit using your wardrobe (and maybe one fun new piece!).
  3. Capture: Share your outfit with #VostraModaQuest, or reply to this email with your entry.

The most inspiring outfit will be featured next week! Please let me know if you would like to remain anonymous.

2 Tips to help you slay

For this week’s quest, I turned to the dark side…well, at least with my outfit! A few years ago, I made a Sith-inspired look including some dramatic makeup, a layered black outfit with a hooded cowl neck vest, and even borrowed my brother’s lightsaber to really “feel the force” for my selfie.

You don’t have to make a costume like I did though – your look could be as simple as focusing on pops of lightsaber colors — blue, green, red, or purple — in your accessories, shoes, or touches of makeup to represent your Force alignment! Or embrace the fandom with a graphic tee or hooded sweatshirt of your favorite character!

Our style suggestions

  1. These are the layers you’re looking for: Drape yourself in flowing fabrics like open cardigans, vests, or even lightweight scarves to channel the effortless, robe-like silhouettes of Jedi masters.
  2. Do or do not, there is no try: Grab a lightweight jacket, tank top, or skirt with Star Wars motifs, like starfields, lightsabers, or symbols of the Empire or Rebellion (extra points for vintage or thrifted finds), or check out some of the nerd-forward shops in our outfit examples for new ideas!
Bri embraces the dark side of the force with a sith lord inspired outfit for May the 4th and Revenge of the 5th this May! An all black layered look, some dramatic makeup, and of course, a cool lightsaber are fitting accents for this outfit inspired by a galaxy far far away.

3 Looks for you to shop

The Mr.

The mr Star Wars flatlay this week is inspired by smooth talker, Lando Calrissian, known for quotes like, “Yeah, I’m responsible these days. It’s the price you pay for being successful.” This professional inspired take of Lando's outfit pulls his color scheme of blue and black together with a touch of gold, but instead of gold lining on his cape, we're adding the pop of color with a cardigan and draping a navy blue raincoat over the top of the entire look. A wide waist belt adds a point of interest that is more similar to the actual costume, but you can always trade that out for a black leather belt paired with the dress pants if you prefer a simpler look.

The Mx.

The mx Star Wars flatlay this week is inspired by a classic character type in the world - the Stormtrooper! Just say things like, "We don't need to see his identification," and everyone will know right away who you're embodying! One of the easier looks to recreate, as it focuses on a black and white color scheme, you can still get creative by adding fun details like the Imperial insignia or something unique like a stormtrooper ring.

The Ms.

The ms Star Wars flatlay this week is inspired by the character, Rey. This jumpsuit is already based on Rey's outfit, so by adding a cream colored cowl and other neutral color accents, you can create more interest in your outfit. Simple accents like the gold Jedi Order symbol on a necklace are a fun touch for this particular character and a shout-out to the Star Wars fandom!
