Hey, Style Slayers — Happy Moda Monday!
Welcome Inside the Closet! In this edition, we’re sharing 1 quest, 2 tips, and 3 looks to help you embrace your unique style superpowers — Let’s step in! 👇
1 Quest for you to try
This week, we’re getting geeky as I challenge you to transform some of your favorite characters into cold-weather cosplays! That’s right, it’s another closet cosplay as everyday wear, but this time, we’re either incorporating or creating winterized looks! Your challenge, should you accept it: “Winterize Your Closet Cosplay”!
How to participate
- Choose: Select your character inspiration – you can choose someone who already has a winter look (such as anyone from Game of Thrones), or choose a random character and come up with your version of what they’d wear in winter weather.
- Create: Combine items from your own closet to develop an outfit the character would wear on a snowy side quest, whatever that might look like for them! Layering, especially for fantasy-themed characters, is a great option for unique outfits and staying warm!
- Capture: Share your outfit with #VostraModaQuest, or reply to this email with your entry.
The most inspiring outfit will be featured next week! Please let me know if you would like to remain anonymous.
2 Tips to help you slay
For this week’s quest, I chose an existing cosplay, Link from Legend of Zelda, but I am putting my own winter spin on it! I chose Link because I already own a number of green items (and the short blonde hair now too!) so the color palette makes it easy for me to feel inspired and still layer items for winter, like a cream-colored knit top beneath the green tunic blouse, and leggings beneath the white trousers I wore for this look!
— Or you can choose a general idea vs a specific character as your inspiration! Go for a themed type of character instead, like a Frosted Fairy using an ice blue and white color palette and some metallics or sequins for textures. Or perhaps a Snow Warrior with neutral tones, faux fur accents, and some metal details in your accessories – get creative with it!
Our style suggestions
- You’ve heard it before, and you’ll hear it again if you check back for more winter challenges: layering is key for both warmth and styling purposes in these looks! Turtlenecks and leggings are great base options and can be layered over with different items for a variety of looks.
- Small details can make a big difference: faux fur can give luxury but it can also give fantasy vibes depending on how you style it! Think about how you can add unique details that are inspired by your character to make it feel like a blend of everyday wear while still subtly calling out your cosplay style quest this week!
